ELECTION DAY   •  FLASH MOB FASHION SHOW  •  Couture Fashion can often be exclusive and elitist, out of price and out of touch for most. And yet Couture Fashion is also playful, confident and inspiring, and so I became obsessed with the idea of bringing high-fashion runway shows into unexpected public spaces around San Francisco. But fashion for fashion sake was never quite enough for me, so I wanted to infuse the piece with a social message and politicize the disruptive fabulousness. So on Election Day, 2010, I rallied over a dozen models, dressed them up in handmade couture garments, allowed each model to create a sign sharing their own personal messages (about politics, their bodies, the fashion industry or our public spaces). At first light, we set out to cause a scene and wake up voters through the city, posting our current location on social media so that people could find us and join in on the runway.
